Today I am so excited to share with you the wise words and beautiful images of Betsy Fick! I seriously love that the internet connects us with amazing artists from ALL over this country we call home! This beautiful, sweet cozy family session is sure to have you ready for your next photo session!
Name/Business name: Betsy Fick of Mountain Gap Photography
Something short and sweet about you: I’m a twenty-something living with my husband and puppy in Southeastern Pennsylvania. My husband and I are both on staff at a church and we spend our weekends photographing couples in love! I’m a little bit addicted to coffee, a lot in love with Jesus, and road trips and Sour Patch Kids make my heart happy!
About this session: This session was unique in the sense that it actually wasn’t a normal client session. Jameson and Megan agreed to model for me as I led a group shoot for a local photographer group I am a part of. We had about 10 photographers come out and we all got to shoot two different couples. I directed them through some of our core posing, and then let each photographer have a turn at directing our models!
Did this session challenge you? Yes! It was challenging in the sense that I was so nervous for it! I love helping out other photographers and it’s always great to get fresh perspective and ideas, but I was definitely thinking “what if I totally bomb this!” in my head the whole day leading up to it! It ended up going great though and everyone had a great time!
What gear did you use? My husband and I shoot with Nikon D750s. Most of the shots in this session were taken with my Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 and my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. The “ring of fire” shots were done with a 1” wide piece of copper pipe for some fun!
Why photography? I love that photography gives me a chance to get to know people and to document their lives. It’s also a creative outlet that breathes life into me! I just love experimenting to get that perfect shot, and I love how much there is to learn about it…I feel like there’s always more to discover!
How does your relationship with Jesus effect your work? I like to think that my relationship with Jesus brings my client experience to a whole new level, especially when it comes to weddings. I love getting to know people and I really try to connect with our brides a bunch before their wedding day. I truly believe that taking that extra time and effort to pamper a couple, show interest in them and their love story, and really just love and serve them well will not only lead to a happier client, but will also show Christ’s love through your actions. We’re called to be set apart, and I want people to recognize that there is something set apart and different about our business!
