Please introduce yourself to everyone!
Hi! My name is Hannah Beasley, and I am a graphic designer and believer who lives in North Carolina!
What is your creative passion, and how did you discover this passion?
Graphic design and web development are my creative passions! In 2010 I decided I wanted to customize my Blogger blog, and I started experimenting here and there with html and css. The work I did was terrible, but I was blissfully ignorant of that and just had fun trying new things. ;) What really helped me realize how much I love this craft, especially graphic design, was paying more attention to the work of other designers. Seeing excellent work made me happy, and made me want to do better myself!
How did you come to know Jesus?
When I was six years old I vividly remember watching a movie about the end times. It terrified me to think of dying, and to think of going through the tribulation. I knew I wasn’t saved. But all I really cared about was my physical safety, so even though I asked the Lord to save me every night when I was scared, I wasn’t really asking for salvation. Fast forward a few years, and I was fourteen. At that point I began to doubt the existence of God. This terrified me, and embarrassed me, especially as I’m a pastor’s daughter. I wanted to believe in Jesus, but I couldn’t make myself do it! I resorted to reading all the literature I could find that would prove to me that Jesus is real, and is God. One night I had one of those dreams that is so life-like you think it’s real. I dreamt that as I was driving down the road, the Lord returned. One instant I was living life, and the next I was falling in darkness and was choking – I knew I was falling to Hell. I woke up in a cold sweat, with the hood of my sweatshirt wrapped around my neck, and I remember realizing it was a dream, and feeling like as if I had just been given a second chance. I spent so much time praying to Jesus right after that, begging Him to give me faith. At some point during that time He did save me! I don’t know the exact time or date, but I know He used that dream and those weeks thinking about eternity to bring me to Himself. I’m so glad He did! Nothing in the world will ever compare to the love Jesus has for His children, and the happiness He gives them!
What is your favorite part about being a business owner?
I am a very independent person, so I love having total control over how my business runs! (and of course, working in pajamas is a huge plus too)
How does being a Christian affect the way you do your business?
I do my best to be upfront with my clients, and treat each one of them with kindness, even if one or two don’t do the same with me! =)
Who is your favorite female character in the Bible and why?
Probably Hannah, the mother of Samuel. She diligently begged the Lord for a child, and completely trusted Him when she had to give him up to the Lord. Having that kind of desire coupled with trust is something I want to have.
What is the most fun design project you’ve ever done?
I have a lot of favorites! But one of the top ones would have to be the letterpress print products I just designed. My client was very sweet to work with, and I loved the finished products.
How do you get a comprehensive enough idea of who your clients are to translate that into graphic design?
There are two parts to this – words and visuals. I always send my clients a long list of in-depth questions about who they are, what their business is like, and what they want their visual brand to look like. This gives them a chance to tell me who they are, and share the things that are the most important to them! I also have them create a board on pinterest with graphics that they love. When I see fifty or so images that someone has gravitated to, and look at the patterns in their choices, it makes it much easier to know what it is that they want.
What is your wildest, most crazy dream for your business?
If I could do anything I would love to transition to doing mainly print design, and open a shop where I sell products that I have designed with libertarian and freedom-themed messages! I am a very political person and would love to be able to share my love of freedom with people in a bigger way.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
I have two – Isaiah 40:27-31, and Isaiah 49:14-16. Each of them speaks so beautifully of Jesus’ love and care for His children.
