Anticipation is a wild, wild thing. On one hand it can speed up life around us as we get excited for what’s about to happen, but on the other hand, it can paralyze us as the waiting becomes too drawn out or too much for us to want to wait though.
Waiting is, at the end of the day, a theme in life. Waiting in line, waiting for class to start, waiting for our friends to come over, waiting for an acceptance letter, waiting, waiting, waiting. On varying degrees we are always waiting for something, someone, some promise. Waiting is a part of what God is doing and beyond that, waiting is a part of the process surrounding us.
What does it meant to have peace in the process?
The lyrics, “In the process, in the waiting, You’re making melodies over me, and Your presence is the promise, for I am a pilgrim on a journey” definitely come to mind here.
We are all in different stages of process. Sometimes we’re happy to wait knowing whatever is about to come to pass is worth it, like starting something new. Other times waiting doesn’t seem worth it, like waiting to move away from friends or family. Yet though it all, through our journey in the process, He is there.
I feel like over and over I can’t address enough what it means to rely on God. Especially in the midst of process and waiting, when we rely on God our questions become smaller and the answers become simpler. He is perfect at getting us where He needs us, when He needs us, how He needs. Outside of rebellion and disobedience, He will get you where He needs you.
As much as we’d like to, fast forwarding over the process straight to the outcome doesn’t work. If we forfeit the process, we also forfeit the promise. There is so much to be had in the process and waiting there’s no need to try to make time go quicker or slower and there’s no need to stress about how we’re going to get from here to there.
If you are frustrated at where you are in the process, you’re most likely looking at other moments ahead or behind instead of what’s in front of you. The will of God is in front of us! Try not to focus on something beyond now but be fully here, fully phenomenal right now. He is the one who determines how long it takes (or doesn’t take) so we can rest knowing His timing is perfect just like He is.
There is a wild humility that comes with laying down what you may think is the “best way” to get where you are supposed to go. The process is what is preparing us and strengthening us to receive the fullness of what is going to be released and it also gives us the strength necessary to sustain what He releases to us.
Process is a part of His promise to us.
Process is not here to discourage or flatten us.
Process will strengthen us to receive and sustain all that He has for us.
Have peace, He will get you where you need to be.
