Driving down the road, I listen to “Your Grace is Enough” as the wind whips through my hair. The sun is shining; I see the road stretch before me.
That morning, I spent so much time worrying and spinning over things that hadn’t happened yet. I was upset with myself for what I was feeling and what I was not feeling. It was then that, with the wind, and with that song, His grace gently washed over me and told me it was enough.
Enough.
No matter how you feel, the truth remains: His grace is always enough to cover you, just as you are, right where you are.
And his grace is enough for whatever you are trying to be that you can’t be. I feel that gap on so many days – the gap between what I expect of myself and what I actually am. The gap where I’ve fallen.
I try so hard sometimes to think my way into and out of my heart and sometimes, I just can’t understand it all. This heart, it keeps pulsing and moving with my emotion, needing a steady anchor that is not me. It needs the whisper of a grace that says, You’re doing just fine. And I love you just the way you are.
That voice – that gentle voice that we need to hold our hearts – is the voice of Jesus.
When we need grace – every second of every day – we can draw close to that voice.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
(James 4:8)
It’s His everlasting love that shows us how to be gentle with our hearts. When we don’t know how to be gentle, let Him show you the way. Let Him hold you and let His grace unfold you today as you show Him the mess inside your heart.
THIS is grace.
Being loved in the place where it looks the messiest. The place where we fail our own expectations and versions of “enough.”
Into the place we feel we should feel more strong – He gently whispers,
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor 12:9)
Into the place we feel we should feel more certain – He gently whispers,
“I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future…” (Jer. 29:11)
Into the place we feel we should be more peaceful – He gently whispers,
“I will keep you in perfect peace, as your mind stays on Me” (Isaiah 26:3)
Into the place we feel we should be more acceptable – He gently whispers,
“I will rejoice over you with gladness, I will quiet you with my love, I will delight over you with singing.” (Zeph. 3:17)
His grace is enough to gently carry our hearts into anything and everything, knowing we are always gently held in His hands.
These are the hands that we abide in. We can stay here. We are safe here.
It’s these gentle hands, these hands that work in us and through us in all of our messiness, that show us the way to be gentle.
They show us how not only to have grace on ourselves, but spread that grace to others. Because we’re all in the same boat. We’re all human. We all have insecurities. We all have experiences that form into fears. We all are some kind of selfish. And we all need this same grace to wash over us. We all need our hearts to be held gently. We all need love and our souls to be cared for.
Let’s be the kind of women that, after we experience the gentle hand of God, we can BE the gentle hands that point to God.
These gentle hands that work on us, they’re the hands that form us and transform us and give us the ability to be gentle in His power, not ours.
Rest in His gentle hands today, sweet girl. He loves you more than you can fathom. He holds your heart ever so gently as He whispers His love and unfolds His grace…and it will always, always be enough.
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.”
-Matthew 11:29
