Thanksgiving is upon us, where you shove your face full of food, and give thanks for what you have. Then only a few hours later it turns into Black Friday where people go crazy buying things! However, it’s not always a bad thing. If there are things you’re going to buy anyway, why not buy them with a little bit of a discount?
I work retail at American Eagle. I’ve never even gone Black Friday shopping, but this weekend I have the privilege of working a couple shifts with all the crazy! Here are some tips I’ve learned about Black Friday that might be beneficial to you.
*Average sales
The average sale ranges between 25%-40% off, or BOGO(Buy One Get One) 50% off. That rings up as 25% off each item. Think about it, how often are there sales like that? Pretty often.
*Length of a sale
Where I work, we will be having the Black Friday sale all week long. I’ve seen at many other places that they last all week as well. If you plan on going shopping, go earlier in the week and avoid the people and lines.
*Know before you go
If you are going Black Friday shopping, make a list of what you want/need. That will get you in and out faster, and you’ll spend less money.
*Make a plan
Don’t go into Black Friday without knowing where you want to go. Even if you aren’t buying anything specific, make a plan of where you want to go. Think of your favorite stores, and write them down. It will save you time, and prevent chaos. If you are going in without a plan, you’ll get lost in the chaos.
*Finally, make a budget!
I know how easy it is to go into a situation and say you are only going to spend a certain amount, but end up spending double that. If you know what you want, figure out about how much it will be, and plan on spending $20 more, just in case. If you don’t know what you want, figure out your budget, and plan on spending $15 extra. If possible, bring cash. It helps you have better control over your money, you’re less likely to spend it, and you can visually see how much you have left.
I hope those tips help! You can follow me at @madeline.isabella on Instagram.
