It can be complicated to try to define the word “style.” It’s not fashion, it’s not a trend, it’s who you are. Who speaks to your style? Or more importantly, who are you letting speak to your style? Who influences you most when it comes to how you represent your style?
Let me clarify. We live in a world that craves to be noticed. We want to fit in, we want to express ourselves and our individuality. We read magazines and peruse blogs and pin outfits to Pinterest. We may be drawn to certain styles of clothing, certain colors, or a certain celebrity, classmate, or coworker who always seems to effortlessly always look put together.
It took me a long time to figure out my own style; what spoke to me, what I wanted to wear, what colors I liked and ultimately (and most importantly), the image I wanted to project. As a Christian, and especially as a woman, I believe that everything we put on our body represents who we are. It’s all sending a message…whether we want it to or not. Trust me.
Now that I’m older and a {little–I think} wiser, I value and appreciate clothes that project class and sophistication: two words I love and like to think of when I’m putting together an outfit or out shopping. I ask myself “is this me: what message is this sending and what am I projecting?” I’ve found that on-trend styling does not mean hiking up a hemline or lowering a neckline. Style is how a woman carries herself, how she lets her personality shine through.
So what’s your style? Who influences or inspires what you wear and how you wear it? I’d love to hear!
