Today we get to hear from a delight artist herself! I think its important to always be learning and willing to grow and expand our knowledge through fellow artists. Emily shared her own piece of wisdom with us! I adore that here at Delight, the community we have is a constant over-flowing pot of shared wisdom.
Hello there! I’m Emily Margaret, a small-town girl and creative. I’m a portrait and lifestyle photographer based in the western Kentucky region and I love making new friends! I aim to reflect the glory of my Creator in my work and inspire others to do the same. In my free time, you’ll often find me sipping chai lattes at my local coffee shop, dreaming about the far-off places I want to visit someday, or reading a good book.
Like many photographers, I shoot in RAW format and use Adobe Lightroom to edit my images. Today, I’m going to share with you one of my favorite editing tricks with an image from one of my recent engagement shoots. It’s a really simple technique, but one that can make a big difference in the finished image. I love having a lot of color in my photos and using the Camera Calibration color sliders can help bring create that extra pop.
In the Develop panel, click on Camera Calibration to open the menu. You’ll see the adjustment sliders for Red, Green, and Blue. For this technique I’ll be using the Blue Primary Saturation slider, which you’ll find down at the bottom of the menu.
Click on the slider and bring it up to about 50, then take a look at your image. See how it brightened up the colors and warmed the skin tones? You can get a similar effect with adjusting the vibrancy, but sometimes the effect with that is too much for the look I want. For this image, I’m going to bump the Blue Primary Saturation up all the way to 100. This is just a personal preference, so feel free to play around with it until you’re happy with the effect.
And voila! Here’s a before and after comparison. It’s subtle, but makes a big difference in the overall look.
I hope you enjoyed this post and have fun trying out this little editing trick!
