For the past several Saturdays we’ve been sharing what happened in July at the Delight House during the Be Still workshop. Abby shared the story of God’s provision for the workshop, and Abby and Kylie shared their perspectives of what took place. Read Hannah’s story below, and read previous workshop/retreat stories here.
It’s been a couple months since I was in the mountains of Washington nestled in the cozy Delight house, and yet it’s still fresh in my mind. I had no idea how much I needed stillness until I was sitting on the grass overlooking His beauty and feeling like all the weight of the world had been taken off my shoulders. I sat there with tear-filled eyes because instantly I knew with everything in me that He had a plan and purpose for me being there. It’s impossible to put into words all that happened in those few short days.
As I process all that the Lord did during our time together, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by His goodness and love that He poured out to us. In just three days, He broke down walls that had been built up, freed us from bondage, renewed our souls in ways we didn’t even know we needed, and blessed us with the sweetest friendships. We had community around the farmhouse table as we broke bread together. There were moments of uncontrollable laughter, amazing worship, and long, truth-filled talks into the early mornings after several cups of coffee. Our earthly desires were wiped clean and we couldn’t get enough of Jesus.
We are living in a day where everyone is impatiently waiting and it can be so easy to get lost in all the busyness. I know for me, as a photographer building my business, I seem to always have mile-high to-do lists, and taking the time to be still doesn’t happen as much as I’d like. So often I hear of the constant struggle it is to find time to be still before the Lord. Satan doesn’t want our hearts centered on Him so he uses busyness as an excuse to keep us from something far greater. When we begin our day with Jesus, He gives a renewed spirit and a fresh outlook on our season of life. We learn how to love like He did and how to live as He has called us.
As the weeks pass from my time in the mountains of Washington, I continue to cherish the time we had together while never forgetting the wonderful and amazing ways the Lord worked. I will forever be grateful to Him for sending me to this beautiful place where stillness is found.
