There are so many marketing options out there… you can put an ad in the newspaper, buy an email list, send out postcards, rent a billboard, and the list goes on… However, I’m a firm believer that the best and most invaluable form of marketing is word of mouth. And the best part? It’s free! Well kinda. It’s not easy to cultivate word of mouth leads, and takes a lot of work on your part, but it’s so worth it in the end!
There are a few general practices that will keep your clients singing your praises and coming back for more!
The first step to generating word of mouth referrals is pretty much a no brainer. You need to exceed your client’s expectations, and if you can exceed your clients expectations in every way, then of course they’ll talk about you! One good way to do this is to under sell and over deliver. For example, include more images on their disc than you advertise, or send them a gift with their order. Everyone loves feeling like they’re getting a great deal!
Step two is to have great customer service. Your clients want to feel like they are going to be taken care of, and if they know that you are willing to go above and beyond to make sure they are happy, then they know that you’ll make their friends happy too.
Step three is a little bit trickier, but probably one of the most important parts! I believe that one of the most important things that you can do to generate word of mouth is to genuinely care about your clients. My clients are so important to me and I genuinely care about each and every one of them. I keep up with them on Facebook, we text, I’ve even been invited to some of their little ones’ birthday parties! So many of my clients become good friends, and I love my job for that! My clients feel comfortable referring me to their friends and family because they consider me to be a friend too.
So there it is! Over deliver, have good customer service, and CARE! Keep your relationships with your clients your number one priority and they’ll be more than happy to spread the word of how amazing you are!
