To be honest, sometimes life is a crazy, upside down, and inside out place. There is heartbreak, and there is healing. There is cruelty, but there is also love.
And as time goes by, I may see more broken hearts, and I may see more meanness, but I also see more joy, truth, and love.
People aren’t perfect like the Barbie and Ken dolls that I used to own. They wear masks.
They are a kaleidoscopic of emotions, and all seem to be fighting to hide them away.
If this world has taught me anything, it is that “To be yourself, is to be ashamed”.
If God has taught me anything, however, it is this:
“…Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7
So in the words of my favorite Casting Crowns song, “Stain Glass Masquerade”
“Is there anyone who’s been there
Are there any hands to raise
Am I the only one who’s traded
In the altar for a stage
The performance is convincing
And we know every line by heart
Only when no one is watching
Can we really fall apart
But would it set me free
If I dared to let you see
The truth behind the person
That you imagine me to be
Would your arms be open
Or would you walk away
Would the love of Jesus
Be enough to make you stay”
