As your photography business will grow, so will the responsibilities, legalities and different circumstances you will be put into! Ive had my share of predicaments I’ve been put into but I wanted to share with you just some of my tips that have not just given me a peace of mind but kept me from potential sticky situations. I hope my experiences and passed along advice can help you on your journey.
Simply embracing these three things has helped me keep my sanity!
1. Reach out for a business mentor
Reach out and keep reaching out until someone reaches back. Getting in touch with people you look up to can sometimes be discouraging. To be honest, not everyone is going to have time to take you under their wing right away or it isn’t the right season of their life. However, there ARE people out there that want to help you and be there to give you advise! I don’t know where I would be without my business mentors, who really are more to me than business mentors. There have been times when I have been faced with new and scary situations, knowing I can go to someone with more experience and knowledge than me gives me such a peace because I know I’m not alone.
2. Keep it legal
Get contracts.
I know they sound scary and really official but they will have your back if things ever go awry. Contracts are so crucial to your business and keeping consistency because it will make you stop and truly think about the policy and reputation you want to make for yourself. It always gives me a piece of mind that when something comes up, I have everything that was agreed to signed, and completely in writing.
3. Be authentic
This has to be something you truly strive for, being authentic. There are going to be lots of things and people who are going to make you feel like you aren’t good enough just being who you are. When you are fully embracing who you are it is such a weight off your shoulders, transparency is a beautiful thing, and such a rare gift in this world that is full of everyone trying to be something you’re not.
So be yourself, embrace becoming legit and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
