I used to think life could be shared with anyone, but now I know choosing the right people is pretty important. – Love Does, Chapter 18
A few month ago I started reading Love Does, by Bob Goff, and it quickly climbed up my list of Favorite Books I’ve Ever Read.
The nuggets.
The a-ha moments.
The truth.
They repeat in your brain through out the day and you can’t help but want to live out true and sincere, Godly love with each person who crosses your path.
It’s almost like the book is contagious.
Going back to the quote at the top of this post…when I read that chapter I was changed. As a teenager, I had always heard you should surround yourself with positive people; people who are a good influence on your life, but for some reason it wasn’t until I started reading Chapter 18 that it all clicked for me.
Can I be real with you? Please know that it comes from a place of sincerity…of care. You see, you become like the people you hang around, and to a degree, you end up going wherever they’re headed. You become connected together and are influenced more than you think. Yes, the bad people need friends too, they just don’t need you. Jesus doesn’t give the devil any grace. He just speaks the truth to him and then tells him to go away.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. – Proverbs 13:20
Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals. – I Corinthians 15:33
Can I encourage you to do just one thing after reading this blog post? Take a few minutes to sit down and evaluate your current friendships and be honest with yourself. Who do you want to be surrounded by?
