One of my favorite things to do here in Savannah is stroll down to the Farmers Market on a Saturday Morning. I always run into familiar faces and walk away smiling when one of the local farmers remembers me and asks how I ended up liking the pea tendrils I bought from him last week. It’s an enchanting atmosphere, stands and spanish moss trees line up the sidewalk through Forsyth Park and you’re surrounded by abundance of beautiful produce. Recently one of my favorite vendors has had amazing Butternut Squash. Butternut Squash is a beloved winter crop. It has a sweet and creamy flesh so it’s perfect for soups, purees and in this case pasta sauce! It’s bright orange flesh indicates it’s loaded with beta carotene which helps fight inflammation and free radical damage. Not only does it taste good but it’s a powerful anti oxidant!
In my life I’ve seen so many women struggle with their relationship with food. Young and old I’ve watched some of my closets friends battle eating disorders, navigate strict diets, grieve over auto immune disease and diabetes diagnosis’ and nearly let it all go because of the death grip of addiction and shame. I am so passionate to see break through for women across this country! For conversations to rise up and to help women learn to love their bodies! Love food! And walk in the freedom The Lord has promised us. I stand on the scripture John 10:10. He has come to give us life and life to the full! I currently live in Savannah Georgia. Bopping around from kitchen to kitchen whether it’s making my roomies eat my latest concoction, running the test kitchen at my job or learning the ways of the French masters at culinary school. I want to make Jesus, my Mom and Julia Child proud. – Sarah Brawley
