{Be Real} The Space in Between

I don’t know about you, but I have always lived with this idea, “YOU are going to change the world.” I have known that God meant me for a purpose and that purpose was big and it was beyond me. Ever since I was a child, I knew that I was unique and I felt it in my bones. Now, as an adult, that feeling has become a little more tangible. For instance, I know that one day I am going to write a book. How? When? Not a clue.

Perhaps this feeling is what CS Lewis references as our “weight of glory.” This sense that God delights in us. That He has something big in store. That we were meant to give glory to a God who is completely holy – and somehow our lives are supposed to be an offering to that God.

The weight of glory can easily become a burden, feeling heavy on our shoulders. I know some days I am completely overwhelmed by it. When I think about all I want to do for God and His mission for me, it can bring me to tears (And has – many times!)

So what do we do in this space? When we know we have an assignment, we just don’t know how on earth to get there?

To be honest, I’m there right now. In between callings and navigating that very same space. So I want to encourage you, wherever you are in this journey with God, there will ALWAYS be a place we experience that space. The space that says: I’m here. But I’m headed there.

Picture this space or gap in our lives like the space between two mountains. (I’m a hiker – bare with me!) We are standing on one mountain or on the side of the mountain – and we see another mountain far off, that we know one day we will stand on. If you’re anything like me, you might ask God, “Can I parachute over there now? Jump even? Fly on a plane from here to there?”

In that moment, if we dare listen to the whisper, we know the way we have to go. God gave us feet, not jet packs. He wants us to walk faithfully. With Him. Step by step. And before we can ascend a new mountain, our steps first have to trudge down the one we are already on.

As we walk, it’s easy to glorify the where that we are headed. It’s easy to fix our eyes on the mountaintop. But the one who holds our hands and our hearts, our dreams and our future, asks us to look instead to Him. To glorify Him, not any location we are headed. Because every place has its own challenges and joys. And true joy, it’s not found there. It’s always right here. The very place God has you to put your foot down next, is where He wants to meet you and fill you with joy.

God speaks to us in whispers. Whispers, soft, like leaves rustling in the wind. If we listen – if we give Him space in our everyday lives – we may just hear something remarkable in the most ordinary of moments.

And where we’re headed? It’s not about us at all. It’s about His grace which meets us though we don’t deserve it. His goodness which uses our pain and brokenness in the most beautiful ways. All to point back to a God who is so gracious to us.

So let’s keep walking together, shall we? Let’s keep our eyes fixed on our God as we walk the path before us. I’m with you, girl. Step by step.

“Commit your way to the LORD,

Trust also in Him,
