If you love shopping on Etsy, you will love Blue Birds Fly! Sarah is from Ontario and personally creates gorgeous scarves, tops, headbands, and even bags! From what I hear, she has spoiled the girls who are going on the Delight Retreat with goodies…I can’t wait to see what wonderful things she’s given!
We are thrilled to feature her today. Please be sure to visit her Etsy shop, say hello, and buy yourself something pretty!
Tell us a little about your business/how you got started:
I opened up my Etsy shop “blue birds fly boutique” a couple of years ago. I have always loved creating, and had been sewing many of my own clothes for years. I opened up my shop really with no expectations. I just thought, ‘Why not give it a shot?’. I borrowed my brother’s camera for the first year I was open, until I could invest in my own. The photography was a huge learning curve for me, and I know there is still so much to learn. I absolutely love it though. I’m still having fun and enjoying running my shop, so I guess that’s a good sign!
Best thing about running Blue Birds Fly:
I love connecting with all of my amazing customers, and seeing them enjoy something that I’ve made. I think my favourite part of running the shop is sourcing out fabric and supplies. I am always dreaming of new projects, and find it very difficult to stay focused on one thing at a time!!! I also love the photography and photo editing that comes along with running my shop. It’s a whole other world of expression that I am often dreaming about as well.
Hardest thing about running your own business:
I love to create things, but find it very difficult to sit and sew hundreds of the same thing. Sometimes it has to be done though! No job is perfect I guess. I try to set production goals for myself, or I will never get anything done.
Favorite product/service to provide?
I try to sell things that I would wear myself. I do love making jewelry though. It’s a nice change from sewing, and is fun to photograph as well.
What advice would you give to teenage girls in the creative arts?
Follow your heart and your dreams. I’ve learned to follow my heart in life. It’s not always easy, and can be lonely at times when others may not understand, but it’s the only way to live. Also…have fun and just be you! We are all unique creatures, and perfect the way God made us, just as we are!
Finally, what’s your favorite type of indulgence?
I love…. watching old black and white films, soda pop, dill pickle chips, Smarties.
