We’re trying something new over here and introducing you to more of the creatives within Delight. Brooke Wilson is an author and part of our Writing group, and I’m so excited for you guys to meet her!
Who are you?
Hi, y’all!! I’m Brooke Wilson. I grew up a Texas girl and now live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I graduated from Oklahoma State University (go pokes) last December and got married a week later. I now work as a teacher/administrative assistant and coach. I love to write, cook, craft, take pictures, sing, and just spend time with people. I am super passionate about women’s ministry and discipleship and have dreams of writing and going deeper into ministry. I’m excited to see where the Lord leads :)
How long have you been writing?
It’s funny because when I was in elementary school I took writing classes and painting classes. I said that I wanted to be an author/painter and create my own book one day. When I hit middle school and high school I became engulfed in sports and actually said that I hated writing. After I graduated college and began my new life as a wife and adult, I kept hearing the Lord say “share your story,” so I finally said, “Okay, God” and started my little blog. This was only about 5 months ago, but the Lord has really done a work in me. Now I LOVE writing and my 9-year-old dreams have come full circle. I again dream of writing and designing my own book. God is funny.
What’s your favorite genre, or what do you write most about?
I love to write about life. That’s what all my posts and writings are about. Life is hard and if by sharing my struggles I can help someone or encourage someone with what the Lord is teaching me, then I absolutely want to do that. We’re in this thing together.
Does writing challenge you? If so, how?
Oh my goodness, yes. I feel like half the time I write, I am preaching to myself. AND I tend to struggle with the desire for people’s approval. Writing and being vulnerable can be scary, but when I feel led to share something, no matter how scared I am, I share it. It challenges me to find my approval and worth in the Lord and not what other people think or how they respond to my writing.
Why writing?
Words are so powerful. I want to be real, I want to encourage, I want to point others to the Cross. Writing is a way that I can do this. Writing is also a way for me to process and learn what God is doing in my life. I love it.
How does your relationship with Jesus affect your work? What has Jesus done in your journey with writing?
Jesus is (hopefully) the center of everything I write. I truly feel like my desire and passion to write came straight from Him. I didn’t really see this one coming. He is teaching me, shaping me, and preparing me so much through this journey of writing. I only pray that my writing would always be a reflection of His goodness and faithfulness and that He would be the one to receive ALL the glory.
What are a few of your favorite pieces?
Some of my favorite pieces that I have written are the following:
