Loving your own work is hard, we tend to pick out all the things we don’t like instead of celebrating our small victories, but why? Why are we are own worst enemy?
As artists, we are so often our own worst critics, I do it, you do it, and your favorite photographer/artist does it too. Most everyone I talk to in the industry has said to me an some point “ I just don’t love my work right now, I feel so lame when I look at her images.”
I get it, I really do. Our natural tendency is to compare to the next person’s post. But do you want to know something Ive learned? Have you ever heard the quote “ You cannot compare your beginning to someones middle?” or even “Your Chapter 3 to their Chapter 9”?
You need to love where you’ve been placed, right where God has you. I know sometimes that’s really hard to do, especially when you are not content with wherever that is. But make the most of today right where you are so in the future you can look back and know that you made the most of today to better your tomorrow.
Remember my posts about finding your passion and being Joyful in the Journey? Find that. Be that. You simply cant create genuine content/art unless you are Loving God, people, and yourself. Love & Joy go hand-in-hand! After all, they start us off as the first listed fruits of the spirit!
Go back to your first love, your roots, why you love what you’re doing, why you are sharing your content. Maybe you need a reason to fall back in love with your medium again. I know for me sometimes I just need an artistic refresh. I usually do that by going to my favorite location *cough* the beach *cough* and shoot just for art’s sake. That right there is my happy spot. I love worshiping our creator with photography, even if its just little ole me trying to capture a slice of His marvelous handiwork. Oh! That’s what I love when the love runs out. Just getting back to my roots and simply just loving life through my lens.
Love, create, repeat.
