I am so excited to be featuring the very talented singer Mackenzie Morgan! I’ve been listening to her latest album “Simple Little Me” and I must say, it really is an amazing album and Mackenzie really is a very gifted singer! :) She has d0ne many covers songs where you can see more on her youtube page here: www.youtube.com/mackenziemorganmusic and you can preview her latest album here: http://www.mackenziemorganmusic.com/
It also, is so inspiring to see that Mackenzie has been pursuing a singing career for a while now and it’s so neat to see how far she has come at her age!
Get to know a little more about Mackenzie:
Singing has always been a passion for me. Even when I was seven years old, I would come home from school and race to my bedroom so I could sing and act out all my Disney movies, along with “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” movie, which really inspired me to start singing out publically.
I then began singing at all the festivals and churches in my home state of Kentucky, but the travelling and staying-out-late was becoming a bit hectic for my school schedule. So, it was either not sing as much or start homeschooling and be able to sing more – I chose to sing more!
It wasn’t an easy, off-the-wall decision, though. My parents had to decide for my mother to quit her nursing career and for us to go down to only one income so my mother could home school me. But, they did it just because they believed, just as much as I did, in the gift and calling God has placed on my life. Some called us crazy and thought we were going on a wild goose chase for fame and stardom, but my parents and I had spent much time praying and seeking the Lord for His direction and we all felt we were being led to do this.
I did so many things over the next few years I guess I should tell you a little about. I sang in twelve states at many different venues. I was on national T.V. on “Maury’s Most Talented Kids 2009” at the age of twelve, I sang at the White House Pageant of Peace when I was nine years old, and sang in two different theater shows in Pigeon Forge, Tn and Chattanooga, Tn. In between all of this, I did many competitions and won ten International awards and ten state awards for the New Gospel Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year for the Tennessee Country Music Association and the North American Country Music Association, International. I was very honored to, also, win the Ambassador of the Year Award for the North American Country Music Association, International. There have been several more I have won, but you get the picture!
When I was thirteen, we moved to Nashville, Tennessee to really take my music to the next level. I was discovered by my manager, Biff Watson, when I was eleven, and he said he wanted to work with me. He has been producing me for over three years now, producing my first EP, “Simple Little Me” which is out on iTunes, along with a few more original songs I wrote and a few cover songs.
My whole life I wanted to move to Nashville and be a part of the music scene. I’ve grown up listening to country music my whole life, and have always loved it. But, church and Jesus has always been THE biggest part of my life.
It’s not that I didn’t want to sing for the Lord, but I didn’t want my music to be limited to the church because I felt God was calling me to be a light for the whole world and I wanted the “world” to be a part of my influence of music. I had started out singing country and gospel, and never really swayed from it. But, in the past few months, God has really been speaking to me about what He wants me to do in life and what my purpose is. He likes to speak to me through dreams and people, and here lately, He’s been trying His best to get my attention! I fully believe He is calling me to go wholly in to Christian music! I’ve never said ‘no’ to Christian music, but I’ve never said ‘yes’ either. Well, now I’m saying it! God has different purposes for different people, and if Taylor Swift can influence young girls through her music, I say “go for it!” But, for me specifically, I know Christian is how I’ll be able to make the biggest difference in young people through my music. Specifically, Christian rock is my preference! I love the bands Flyleaf, Skillet, and Red, who I listen to constantly! You’ll see how much I actually listen if you follow me on Spotify! The past year has really been a year of change in my personal style, but I’m loving it. It’s a scary thought starting out on a new path in a new genre, instead of the one I’ve been pursuing my whole life, but, God is leading it. And, wherever He takes me is going to be amazing, I know! The thought had never crossed my mind to become a Christian artist until He began speaking to me, in as many ways He could, and made me stop and listen to what He was saying. Jesus is everything to me, and I know He’s getting ready to use me in great and mighty ways! I just can’t wait for all the tomorrows, and I ask for your prayers always. We can do nothing without the Lord’s direction and anointing!
