My home is in the very small town of Bolivar, Missouri. It’s just north of the “Ozark Mountains” and south of the city I love: St Louis, Missouri. My husband and I just bought a house in the most charming neighborhood and we can see the stars from our deck without too much effort. It’s a lovely place to work a live.
A website/blog you frequently visit?
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be?
I would love to have lunch with my husband. We don’t get to spend good, quality time with each other during the day and I would love to take a lunch break and go eat at a local restaurant with him.
What are five words your friends would use to describe you?
This is what my friends would say about me (because I asked!): Visionary, Inspirational, Generous, Bold and Passionate.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
In five years, I want to be walking with God. I want to be wherever, doing whatever he has called me to do with passion and the craziest kind of love. I want to be supporting and encouraging my husband and pouring truth into my sister’s lives. I want to be walking by the Spirit. Wherever He leads me is a good place to go.
In five years, I would love to be adding a fireplace to our home where we can snuggle up and read together. I would love to be planning a honeymoon adventure (that will be 8 years of marriage y’all) and I would love to invite people into our home often.
If you had to choose one lens, which one would it be?
The Carl Zeiss 80mm lens! This lens creates the most beautiful bokeh and sits beautifully on the Contax!
What’s in your camera bag?
I carry a Contax 645, Carl Zeiss 80mm, Canon 1v, two Canon 5D Mark ii’s, 50 f/1.2, 85 f/1.2, 100 macro, 70-200 and a lot of film.
How long have you been doing photography?
I have been photographing my life since I was 11, when I saved to buy my very first point and shoot. I photographed freshly washed grapes and flowers in my backyard. I kept photographing life and friends through high school and the first part of college, but it wasn’t until 2011 that the idea of running a photography really became my focus.
What type of photography do you focus on?
I focus on photographing weddings, but I also love photographing families & children when I get the chance.
Did you go to photography school?
Nope! I have a degree in Math, Computer Science & Counseling.
What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?
Stop being so afraid of everyone and everything. Speak the truth in love and be bold and courageous in the Lord. There is absolutely nothing that can keep you from the love of Christ and He has forgiven you ALL of your sin. Everything you have done and everything you will do was forgiven on the cross, so you don’t have to ask God to forgive you in order to remind Him to forgive you. Ask for forgiveness to remind you of who He is and what He has already done! You stand redeemed and deeply loved before the throne of God because Jesus has changed everything for you.
How does your relationship with God affect the way you do business?
My relationship with God affects everything. It affects the way I treat my clients, how hard I work on a wedding day & every decision that I make for my business. The Lord has been so merciful to show me that life apart from Him is nothing and what I really want is to bring Him Glory. He shows me the way in my business: opportunities to pursue and opportunities let go. I wouldn’t be where I am without His love, redemption and direction.
Favorite verse?
The verse that rests on my mind changes from season to season or even week to week. Right now, the Lord is constantly reminding me to hope in Him (Isaiah 40:31), that He is my anchor (Hebrews 6:19) and that I can pray to Him on all occasions with all kinds of requests (Ephesians 6:18).
How would you describe your style?
Genuine, Elegant, Intimate & Personal.
Who or what is the greatest love of your life?
The Lord is absolutely the greatest love of my life. He has changed everything for me. He is teaching me to love others boldly and courageously. He has shown me that he gave Isaac to me and me to Isaac because we can run harder together than we could have without each other. And oh, how I love my husband. He is such a gift & I want to treasure all this time that God has given us.
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
My husband. He has been such a strong, godly leader in my life from the beginning. I love that He lets the Lord lead him. It gives me such a peace because I know that wherever we go and whatever we do, we will follow the Lord TOGETHER!
My dear friend, Brandy, really reached out to me in high school and has taught me so much about what it means to follow the Lord and be a woman of God. She and her husband have taught Isaac and I so much, leaving such an impact on our dating relationship and marriage. I am beyond thankful for them.
If you could shoot with another photographer, who would it be?
Oh, definitely my friend
Gert! She is such an energetic and fun gal, plus she says things like “groovy!”
Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from whoever I am photographing! I love to learn about my couples and really connect with them so that their personalities really come through in the images.
The inspiration to run my business definitely comes from the Bible. It can be so easy to be discouraged & overwhelmed when you are running your own business and reading the word helps me to stay grounded in His promises and what really matters.
If you could choose one person to photograph, who would it be?
I would choose one of my sisters. They are so precious to me and I love them dearly.
