Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am full of energy and life! I sing and I speak, I feel like God gave me music. I love chasing after what’s bigger than me and dreaming big. I have a love love relationship with NYC, great coffee, and fashion. My relationships are very important to me. I am a real person. What I mean when I say that is I go through things just like you do. I don’t have it all together. I don’t want to paint a picture of someone who is perfect in all ways. I am still learning and still growing. I still need to change. I am still walking out the dream that God put on my heart. I understand how it feels to be afraid or to struggle with a picture of the future. I am learning that it is OK and safe to trust God with my life.
How long have you been singing and writing?
Well, if you must know I used to give concerts while standing on the fireplace hearth as a little girl…the kickoff off to my first tour!!! HAHA! I have really been singing all my life as it’s always been in me, but began singing before audiences in various settings probably around age 17. I starting writing my own music in my early twenties. I had the desire to do so, but so much fear that I couldn’t. God placed specific people in my life to really pour a lot of encouragement into me in that season so I could really move forward, put the pen to the paper and and write my songs, and tell my story.
Where is home:
Home is currently in a small town called Wethersfield, CT. There is a Starbucks nearby which is essential! Right down the street from where I am is a great little area with a “village” sort of feel. I run here often when the weather is warm enough. It’s nice because sometimes you need quite surroundings that cause you to pause. I grew up in an even smaller town called Colchester, CT.
If you could have lunch with one person, who would it be?
Hands down, Joyce Meyer. First of all, I have wanted to meet her since I was 12. I used to put her teaching tapes in my walkman, (yes walkman, ladies, Google it) and listen to them on the bus and in between classes! Joyce has been a huge inspiration in my life. Her tenacity in going after God and sticking to His Word have inspired me to do the same, and I would probably ask her a lot about those critical moments she had in her life, how she got through, what she was feeling at the time, and what she had to push past. She is a firecracker and I love it. I have had some pivotal moments at her conferences where God spoke to me, and my deep desire to speak (in addition to sing) began there.
What are 5 words friends would use to describe you?
Bold, dynamic, witty, trustworthy, and warm-hearted.
Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I see myself growing in the vision God has placed in my heart. I want to continue to be able to reach and inspire women to know that they are loved, valued and fought for. I plan on doing this through conferences/speaking engagements, music albums and other platforms. The thing is that all of these types of platforms (including the content) have to come from a revelation of God’s love. I can’t just “do this”, it comes out of knowing God. Each thing He walks me through, another layer, another revelation of His love is revealed. That has to be and stay the heart of it all or else I will just be running from speaking engagement, to show, to location, doing the “duty” of it all, but never having the closeness with the Father. I desire to be married and raise great children and love them and my husband well. I hold a picture of my heart of moving forward, enjoying the life God has for me.
A website/blog you frequently visit:
Honestly, H&M.com, DaveRamsey.com, and Michael Hyatt’s blog. I love fashion, Dave Ramsey keeps me on budget, and Michael Hyatt’s insight and content is extremely helpful and so practical. It encourages me to maximize what God has given me in the best way.
If you had to choose one song, which would it be?
Right now it would be my song, Strong and Beautiful. That song is the thread that runs through the entire ministry. It is truly the theme of my life. Every word of that song is written from my personal experience and battles. It inspires me and reminds me that He made me fearless. It is close to my heart. It’s special to me. I remember when I woke up in the middle of the night several years ago and wrote the chorus- the words came so quickly! I knew it was written to encourage lives. Did you go to school for music?
No, but I have an extremely musical family- my Dad sings and was in a band. My brother sings, and can play drums. I have cousins also that do the same. A lot of the material I wrote my brother helped me with in a major way and that’s part of the reason’s why the project is so special to me.
How does your relationship with God affect the way you do business?
It is a completely different lens than the world. In the world, it’s get ahead, get all you can, because you don’t know when it will run out-oh and while you’re on the way to doing that-step on everybody else. God’s economy is different. I am learning to trust, because that same fear of lack and scarcity still tries to come upon me. God is a generous God . I am training myself to say there is always more, not just speaking in terms of money. I can always give my best and not be afraid I am going to run out of content. It’s God who inspires, who gave me creativity in the first place – so there will always be more. It also helps me look at other artists/speakers not as a threat. I can enjoy the gifts God has given them, they are a blessing to me and not my competition. It causes me to always want to give my best to my listeners, my readers, etc. I want to give them something of quality because I really care about them. I want them to feel so valued. I don’t want to hold back. In the same way God doesn’t hold back with us. He generously gives love, mercy, grace and compassion. He is not up in heaven thinking, “Natalia, I am sorry to tell you, but I have run out, you have exhausted my supply.” It doesn’t happen. I can give freely and not be afraid I will run out. This whole thing was God’s idea in the first place and learning to do business from that truth is giving me security and it is very freeing.
Favorite verse:
It’s a tie! Philippians 4:13: because Christ gives me strength for all this! This fires me up and lights up within me a “let’s do this” type of attitude. Proverbs 31:25: because it reminds me that I am clothed with strength and dignity, that I was created without fear! This is a life verse for me and really the theme of Strong and Beautiful.
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
My Mom and Dad. It’s the truth. Here’s why: no matter what we went through as a family, my parents always had this rock solid reliance on God. God was never out of the equation, in fact, He was the equation itself. Many “fads” in Christianity have come and gone but I have seen a picture of stability in Christ with my Mom and Dad. That has been huge for me. It doesn’t mean we never went through things or that things were always easy, but God was always the center, the heartbeat of our family and they, along with my brother, have been my biggest support.
If you could perform with another artist, who would it be?
Joss Stone. She has soul and sass and I totally love it. It would be so much fun to play an acoustic set with her and then also with a full band. Her music is fun, simple, and honest. I notice the simplicity in the music on her tracks and the power in her voice tell a story. I love this way of doing music.
Where do you find your inspiration?
It comes from so many places, some expected and some unexpected. Sometime it’s from having coffee with a friend and sharing our hearts. A lot of times it comes from reading the Word of God and I see something that speaks to me and I dig deeper. Sometimes it comes while I am on a run. Sometimes it comes from an underlying theme I see my generation struggling with. At times it comes from being in NYC and just dreaming big. Many times it comes from my own story. What I went through or am still going through at that moment.
If you could choose one place/event to perform, where/what would it be?
To speak/sing at Joyce Meyer’s annual women’s conference as a guest artist. I love how much creativity is put into her conferences. I love that its not just fluffy and frilly but there is a depth and truth. It empowers you to be who you were created to be by God. How is that not exciting?!
What advice would you give your 15-year-old self?
Honestly, not to worry. Seriously. I am still learning this. I mean, you think about, where am I going to go to school? How will I move out? How will I get an apartment? Am I on the right track for pursuing my dreams? For me, I was always wondering if I was right and how the next step would
come because I really could not see it and I had no idea. Having no idea caused me to worry. The truth is that God is in control. Each step He brought to pass along with the provision for it. Never left me half way. I was always in route to my dream (and I still am by the way)- a step here, a
connection there, it all adds up. I would tell myself to have confidence in who God made me and confidence for my journey- because that’s just it, its mine and He is with me literally all the time, never EVER leaving me alone.
