the thrift stores & your dad/grandpa’s closets are full of old ties that never get worn! this is just one way you can upcycle to make them useful again:) (and just so you know, some of the ugliest ties make the most unique head wraps! just check for stains or worn edges before you choose your tie!)
you’ll need:
tie | seam ripper | scissors | iron | sewing machine
1) Using your seam ripper, careful dismantle the tie until all you have left is the one long strip of fabric.
2) Once you’ve finished dismantling, use the iron to flatten out folded edges & such. Make sure to check whether the tie is silk, cotton or rayon and to adjust your iron accordingly.
3) Next, fold your tie in half, making the two points meet.
4) Cut excess fabric off of either side (so when looking at the image above, you would cut off the “faded” portion of fabric that is shown) so that you are left with a long strip of fabric that is equal in width from one end to the other.
5) Fold the width of the strip of fabric in half, inside out, and sew all the way along the outer edge. BE SURE to leave a section of 2-3 inches left unstitched so that you can turn the tube right side out.
6) Use a pencil to turn the tube right side out and stitch the opening shut. Then use the iron to flatten it out & give proper creases.
7) now style it! So many ways it could be worn!
