Rejoice in Hope

  1. Hosanna says:

Where did the rejoicing go? It was dampened by the hole a death left in the family in June that we still grieve. By the season of waiting and restlessness I’ve fought for so long. By my inadequacy and the messiness of my sin nature. By my strivings instead of rest in Him.

I haven’t rejoiced in such a long time. Rejoicing seems so vulnerable. When you rejoice, you can be shot down, discouraged, filled only to be empty. I am safe in my sorrows.

We’re studying 1 Peter in my Bible study and I’ve been mulling over these words from 1 Peter 1. They go just with what you said, Kerri, and I’m seeing these words of Peter’s with new eyes.
Verses 6-9, emphasis mine. 6 In this you *rejoice*, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with *joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory*, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

An awesome post, Kerri. Thank you!
