Are you ready for a funky furniture feature?!! (wait. did i really just use three ‘f’s’? haha)
This is the kind of spool that cables come on… and the spools come in lots of sizes! A core of thick cardboard, reinforced with metal rods is typically sandwiched between a few round slabs of plywood to make the spool sturdy. I’ve even seen them smaller than this one & big enough to be a dining room table:) I don’t have a lot of tips about where you can find them but I would imagine scrap yards & possibly electrical plants might have a few if you called first!
A can of wood stain & a can of polyurethane gave the wooden ends a more polished look. When the staining was complete, I hot-glued the nautical rope (found at my local hardware store), little by little, around the core to finish it off.
I love the rough, natural wood look & rope that makes for a unique end table!
What do you think?! Have you repurposed or upcycled furniture before?!
