My name is Ellie Berry + I am a 19 year old storyteller, adventurer, dreamer, daughter, sister, and friend. I am in love with Jesus. My favorite color is yellow, and if photography wasn’t a thing, I would be an elementary school teacher. Traveling is literally the coolest thing. One of my favorite things ever is to watch people do something they are passionate about. When people are doing what they love, I smile. I have five younger siblings who are my “original subjects” and my best friends. My mom and dad rock. Also, I really love bagels.
I was 11 years old when my babysitter brought along her camera to my house. I was so intrigued by it and when I got to hold it, and gasp! Take a picture! My heart stopped. It was a beautiful thing to click, and make an image. I used my mom’s camera off and on, and booked a few free sessions for close friends. I launched my business in 2007, and for a 13 year old, a lot of people put their trust in my ability to take pictures. I still can’t believe it. I’ve definitely had my ups and downs. Sometimes, for a few months at a time, no one would be hiring me, and I had to remind myself that I was a student first, then a photographer. Things came before photography for a while and it was a hard pill to swallow, but I was where Jesus wanted me to be. Which is a beautiful thing. I did quite a few family + children sessions and I was happy to be doing what I loved.
When I was 17, I interned with Kristen Leigh (the babysitter ;)) and became her second shooter. This was invaluable. She has taught me everything I know about photography and once I started shooting weddings, there was no turning back. I started switching over my business from family photography, to wedding + portrait photography. It was a hard transition, building up a completely different client base is difficult. But again, people believed in me and for that, I am so grateful.
My style of photography is fun, passionate, and real. I love being able to showcase who someone really is through my images. I shot a proposal session last fall, and since then, I shot that same couple’s engagement pictures + wedding. That was huge for me. I loved being a part of their life in that way. That’s the cool part of my job. Culling images + paperwork? Yeah… I love being a business owner! ;)
So I stand here today, only by the grace of God, and I am happy to say that I am still doing what I love. I started The C4 Project back in April, and doing both that and photography, well it’s basically my dream life. Jesus is so good.
Love the genuine nature of these photos. Great sense of continuity, and love the love here!
