Does God still carry out physical healing in this day and age? Can the lame suddenly walk? Can the blind see? Do things like in Acts 3 actually happen? What can the Father do for the members of this world? What is He capable of healing in me?
In these last three years I have had many things happen. In those three years the questions previously stated ruled my universe. Though, out of the tears came the greatest blessings. They were just in disguise at the time.
Lord, take this story and use it for your glory. Take this life, Jesus I am Yours. Let Your mercy come down Lord.
Three years ago I had a very tragic surgery. I had three impacted molars removed but when I woke up I realized that I had lost all sensation in my tongue. This was because my two lingual nerves had been severely damaged. The lingual nerves connect the brain and tongue, so without the nerve functioning it is no longer possible to have the senses in your tongue to work. As a result, I no longer received any taste, pressure like biting or really even the faintest touch, or hot and cold.
On top of that, I ended up in the hospital at Doernbecher for five days due to two abscesses in my temple and cheek that had to be surgically drained. The night of the emergency surgery I ended up having a dangerously high fever. My body was working as hard as someone running a marathon in extremely hot heat. There were absolutely angels in that room hospital room. I was so blessed to come out of that room alive, let alone recovering the way I did.
The pain did not stop there. I have had four subsequent surgeries to try to repair the damages incurred. I have had hours of treatment to try to fix my truisms, as I was not able to open my mouth due to all the scar tissue. I had two rounds of antidepressants to help with all of the anesthesia, physical distress, PTSD, and other emotional stressors. Thank the Lord, my God that they worked. Thank you God for blessing this world with modern medicine.
I went on to deal with trouble with all the medications they had me on. I became addicted to painkillers because of all the surgeries I had had. I became dependent on it very quickly. I fought a silent battle against the addiction and after a little over a year I was successful with quitting. A few months later my parents figured it out which was honestly a moment of great relief. My past problem was no longer in the dark; I could finally go through the struggle with the closest people around me.
Soon after I had finished my last repair surgery my family and I entered in to deep prayer. We asked God if we should go through with the legal process of suing for malpractice. We had great amounts of evidence that backed us up, but we never looked at the final verdict as money being the end result. We purely wanted the doctor to apologize and see the consequences of the mistake that was made. More importantly though, we hoped that He could see the forgiveness of the Lord in our eyes. Recently that court hearing went through. I sat in the courtroom alone for one long week testifying to the damages that I would have for the rest of my life because of that one surgery. I was standing up for myself and for the first time I felt God by my side, telling me Abigail, I will fight for you. But then the verdict came out. NOT LIABLE. Three years of hard work down the drain. The three years of pain, blood, and tears felt useless.
I was so adamant that that week God was finally going to fight for me. That He was not going to just allow life happen to happen to me. That He was going to show how He intercedes in peoples lives. The battle between good and evil was waging inside that courtroom… Satan seemed to have won for the slightest moment.
The moment I knew we had lost, I bought into the lie that God had lost and Satan won. I relinquished my mind to Satan I questioned who God was in ways I could have never imagined. I did not know it but He loved me even more in those moments. When I lost that court case on that day, it was as if I had lost Your love, God. I actually felt like I had gotten so far away from You, that Your joy could not ever find me. I gave up.
But God won.
I went to a prayer and worship activity for a job opportunity on March 16th. To be completely honest, everything in me was screaming don’t go!!! Don’t open up!!! Don’t pray for something big because God won’t follow through!!! OH HOW WRONG I WAS! I went in…I opened up…I prayed big.
GOD WENT IN WITH ME…HE LISTENED TO MY OPEN HEART AND WORSHIP…HE ANSWERED MY BIG PRAYER.
I had spent two weeks fighting God. Not praying or reading my Bible. I was honestly pissed off at my Creator. He broke me that night. I said to God You have left me with nothing at all. No energy. If I had one more ounce of energy in me, I would still be fighting You, but I don’t. So You get my pain. Take it. I don’t want it any longer. I will do whatever You ask of me. Little did I know He would tell me to ask for healing. I fought it for a while but finally gave in. I asked for complete healing about half way through the prayer session. He said yes. I was miraculously healed. The first thing I tasted in three years was a blueberry jellybean.
See, my God is bigger then what we give Him credit for. We put Him in the tinniest box, we tell Him to stay right there but then we are angered when He doesn’t break free of that box and blow our minds. I gave God the go ahead to blow my mind. He did it. Tasting and feeling is such a new and beautiful experience. I cannot get over this feeling of awe.
I felt so abandoned and so alone, like God had forsaken me. That is not in His character. If anything, I am the one that ran from Him. I believed Satan fully bought into the devils lies. This gift of taste and pressure and hot and cold was something that was waiting for me. God had His hand out with this precious, neatly wrapped gift just waiting for me to get on my tiptoes and accept it. I just had to try to let go; reach for faith just a little bit further.
I just had to let Him take the reigns. Now I am like the beggar man in Acts 3: jumping around and rejoicing in God’s great glory.
The answers to my questions from earlier…
Does God still carry out physical healing in this day and age? YES! Can the lame suddenly walk? YES! Can the blind see? YES! Do things like in Acts 3 actually happen? YES! What can the Father do for the members of this world? LITERALLY EVERYTHING! What is He capable of healing in me? NOT A SINGLE THING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM!POSSIBLE FOR HIM!
