Whoever receives Jesus and chooses to trust and follow Him have the right to be God’s children. When Jesus came, he brought a major revelation to the Jewish people. He was the son of God, telling everyone about the Father who loved them.
The Jews were used to a God that was mighty to save, one that would rescue them and come in power and speak through prophets, but not one that desired intimacy. Not one that chose them to be His children, and not one that had an inheritance prepared for them. It was foreign to them.
Jesus talks a lot about the Father because it was imperative that the people understood that God the Father loved them and His love is what was going to save them.
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ (John 3:4-7)
Nicodemus did not understand, and I mean, it is kind of crazy.
I mean, you have to be born again? His logical brain that had spent countless hours studying theology really struggled. I get that. My brain is the same. I want an explanation for everything. I want everything to line up and I want to see where things are going by lining up what people say and what is going on and see the logical conclusion.
Unfortunately, the Kingdom of God doesn’t work like that. Walk by faith, not by sight, right?
So we are born again, born of the Spirit. We are a new creation because we go from flesh to spirit. Our sprits are awakened, the blinders are stripped from our eyes, and we can begin to form a relationship with God. The Almighty, the Provider, the Savior, the Father.
We are His. In so many ways.
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12-13)
When we choose this path, we are given something incredibly remarkable.
We are given THE RIGHT to become children of God.
Born of God.
No longer carrying the generational sins and curses and DNA of the past. No longer slaves to fear. No longer walking in darkness.
Born of God.
With His DNA taking shape, resulting in the fruit of the Spirit. His love in us, His thoughts and will available to us, and His power and authority bestowed upon us. His kids. Born OF Him, our Abba. Who cares about every little detail, and never gets mad or condemns us.
So this month, we encourage you to delight in this! To sit in the wonder of being God’s own. Let it stir in your heart, let it sink in deep. You are your Father’s child, and He is yours.
